Please note that this blog entry (unlike the other posts, which I've written) was composed by Adam Branch; I would shoot him an email (his email is listed above the psot) with your question. I'm sure he'd be happy to discuss.
Thank you for engaging and learning more.
All the best,
SamSam Dubalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08630214008971048687noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4066985533894409098.post-76401302560316876032012-03-10T12:43:39.718-08:002012-03-10T12:43:39.718-08:00How are we, as consumers, contributing to land gra...How are we, as consumers, contributing to land grabbing and to the wars raving this region? Good question. Can someone tell the answer? What am I buying that is causing this? I need some for information before I buy your blog. My congregation has helped Ugandans create a school, orphanage for children orphaned by many reasons, a clinic with a sustained staff, generator, a number of wells (absolutely necessary) and micro loans for businesses for women over the last 7-8 years in Tururo, Uganda. Hands on work throughout the year, dentistry and farming for sustainability, etc. Check out Hope4kids international. That's a small but significant support for the area and continent; a huge impact on the people. it may not affect the people in No. Uganda but it's making a difference in Tururo. Now what again can consumers in the US do to affect change in No. Uganda??? I'll wait for your answer. Education is everything.sobaycitizenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15842806885009318427noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4066985533894409098.post-90387541273683480352012-03-08T14:13:08.104-08:002012-03-08T14:13:08.104-08:00Hi Miss Marmelstein, I've just posted Adam'...Hi Miss Marmelstein, I've just posted Adam's brief here on my blog. I'm actually a doctoral student at UC-Berkeley who also works in Northern Uganda. I think the best overview of the conflict (including what's happening with ordinary people on the ground), is anthropologist Sverker Finnstrom's 'Living with Bad Surroundings'. Adam has a new book out too that deals more with humanitarianism: 'Displacing Human Rights: War and Intervention in Northern Uganda'. You might email Adam (his email is at the top of the post) to see if he would be willing to share his syllabus. Many thanks for your interest and concern! I have a lot of FB friends asking how they can learn more, and other than Allen and Vlassenroet's book, I'm not really sure where to send them.Miss Marmelsteinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01784962533832912308noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4066985533894409098.post-26743989131311918932012-03-08T10:18:23.667-08:002012-03-08T10:18:23.667-08:00Boom!Boom!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14329120251514094465noreply@blogger.com
